Sheltered Housing

We all know the feeling of having a major worry or issue that overshadows our days. Thankfully, few of us have experienced a concern as all-encompassing or challenging as homelessness. Without the security of a place to sleep and a shelter over their head, many people cannot address the other areas of life where change is necessary in order to be self-sustaining. People without a place to call home often seek assistance only after they’ve exhausted every financial resource, overstayed invitations to sleep on a friend’s couch, and strained family relations. Additional burdens like no transportation, food, or health care can make the situation seem hopeless–we are here to show them it is not. The Love in Action Sheltered Housing program at Hope House (women and children) and Harbor Hall (men) uses a holistic approach to encourage personal development and life transformation. Our goal is to positively impact individuals by offering love and hope to those struggling with homelessness. Focusing on the physical, social, psychological, and spiritual well-being of a person, we can lift up our guests out of homelessness and into stability.

We do this by fostering growth in the areas of life that support sustainability:

  • Weekly Individualized Case Management
  • Structure and Accountability (daily schedules, house rules, curfew, weekly house meetings, weekly volunteering, house chores)
  • Life Skills Classes (relational skills, communication, establishing good boundaries, and faith development)
  • Money Management Classes & Mentoring
  • Job Readiness Training

How you can help?

  1. Pray for this Ministry– pray that God would heal the broken hearts that are seeking the shelter and enable staff to be the hands and feet of Christ as they minister to the needs of the residents.
  2. Advise or Mentor– volunteer as a Resident Adviser or mentor.
  3. Provide Financial Support – Love in Action is donor-supported. Your financial contribution directly translates to help for those struggling in our community.

*Any gifts received above a specific need will be used for other programs within the Love in Action ministries.

PLEASE NOTE: The Love in Action Sheltered Housing Program is not an emergency shelter. Candidates for the program must meet specific criteria and be ready to make radical change in their life. If you or someone you know is in a situation of homelessness, please contact Love in Action at (616) 846-2701.
